Pinnacles sunset & stargazing

This 9-hour mini-coach trip heads north from Perth to the Pinnacles in Nambung National Park, timed for a guided sunset walk among the limestone pillars, then dinner with a glass of wine and a telescope under the stars. It is not Wave Rock but Perth's other great rock landscape, and a shorter day with more than 1,100 reviews behind it.

Pinnacles Sunset and Stargazing Tour with Dinner

About this experience

Wave Rock lies east of Perth. The Pinnacles lie north, about 200 km away in Nambung National Park, near the crayfishing town of Cervantes. Limestone pillars rise out of yellow sand there, the tallest about 3.5 m high according to Wikipedia, formed from ancient shell-rich limestone worn down by weather. This tour does not go to Wave Rock, and it is a fine second rock day if you have already booked the Wave Rock coach day tour.

The mini-coach leaves from the Criterion Hotel on Hay Street. After about 1.5 hours you stop at Guilderton Lookout, high above the Indian Ocean and the mouth of the Moore River. In wildflower season the tour visits Nilgen Nature Reserve for kangaroo paws, banksias and grass trees; otherwise it stops at Hangover Bay, where dolphins and sea lions are sometimes seen. Then comes the main event: a guided walk through the Pinnacles as the sun sets and the sand turns gold and pink.

After sunset you eat a locally sourced picnic dinner with a glass of sparkling wine, and, weather permitting, use the tour's telescope on the dark sky. Park admissions are included. With 1,146 reviews at 4.7 stars, this is the most-reviewed tour on our site. The departure time shifts through the year to catch the sunset, so check yours when you pick a date. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Tips before you book

  • Bring a warm jacket and long pants. The listing packs them for a reason: the desert cools fast after sunset.
  • Pack light. The listing does not allow large bags or oversize luggage on the coach.
  • Check the departure time for your date. It moves through the year to catch sunset.
  • Stay off the pillars. Climbing them is not permitted in Nambung National Park.
  • Doing Wave Rock too? Book that day first, as it is the longer trip. Our Wave Rock tours guide compares the options.
