The Wave Rock entry fee

Wave Rock charges one fee per vehicle, paid to the Shire of Kondinin at the base of the rock. It covers more than the rock itself, and on a day tour from Perth it is already in the price.

Wave Rock sits on reserves vested in the Shire of Kondinin, and the entry fee goes to the Shire. It is a flat charge per vehicle, not per person, which makes it cheap for a full car.

Below: the 2026 price, where to pay it, what it includes, why some websites still show an older figure, and the extras around Hyden that are charged separately.

The quick answer

The Shire of Kondinin charges A$15 per vehicle, bought only at the base of Wave Rock at the ticket machine or the Wave Rock kiosk. It covers Wave Rock and Hippo's Yawn, and Wave Rock Management says The Humps and Mulka's Cave are included in the same entry pass. The salt pool and the wildlife park cost extra. The Wave Rock day tours from Perth include entry.

How much is the Wave Rock entry fee in 2026?

A$15 per vehicle, according to the Shire of Kondinin.

One car, one fee: two people or five, the price is the same. The Shire's tourism page puts it simply: there is an entry fee of $15 per vehicle, and it also covers Hippo's Yawn. From the car park it is a 100 m walk to the wave.

Fees change from time to time, and the Shire's figure is the one that applies. Here is what a day around Hyden adds up to in 2026:

Where do you pay the Wave Rock entry fee?

Only at the base of Wave Rock: at the ticket machine or at the Wave Rock kiosk.

The Shire is specific that tickets can only be bought at the base of Wave Rock. There is no online ticket for the rock itself, so there is nothing to sort out before you leave Perth. Pay when you park, then walk.

Cards are easy in Hyden. Wave Rock Management says nearly all Hyden businesses take EFTPOS and cards, and there are ATMs at the Hyden Travel Stop, the Wave Rock Motel and the IGA. Trail maps for the walks are available at the Wave Rock kiosk or the Shire office in Hyden.

The fee covers the walk trails too, including the 1 km loop to Hippo's Yawn.

What does the Wave Rock entry fee cover?

Wave Rock, Hippo's Yawn and the walk trails, plus The Humps and Mulka's Cave, 15 minutes' drive north.

The Shire says the fee covers Wave Rock and Hippo's Yawn, linked by a loop track of about 1 km. Wave Rock Management's page for The Humps and Mulka's Cave says both are "Included in Wave Rock Entry Pass". At The Humps there are two trails: the Gnamma Trail (about 1,220 m), with panels by local Noongar elders and artists, and the Kalari Trail (about 1,670 m) to the summit. Mulka's Cave holds hand stencils and ochre paintings and is a protected site, so treat it gently.

Lake Magic is a short drive north of the rock. Drive to the parking area, not onto the lake edge: vehicles get bogged, and recovery costs A$500. For which walks to do and in what order, see our Mulka's Cave, Hippo's Yawn and Lake Magic guide.

Why do some websites say the Wave Rock fee is A$12?

An older page on waverock.com.au still shows A$12 per vehicle. The Shire of Kondinin's current figure is A$15.

The Hippo's Yawn page on waverock.com.au says "$12 per vehicle", paid to the Shire of Kondinin at the entrance. It is an older page. Fees change, and the Shire sets them, so go by the Shire's A$15.

The A$12 figure can still turn up online. Budget A$15 and you will not be caught short at the machine.

What else costs extra at Wave Rock?

The salt pool (A$10 adult, A$5 child) and the wildlife park (A$15 adult, A$7.50 child), or the A$20 Gold Pass.

The Wave Rock Salt Baths are a round gypsum pond, about 20 m across and 6 m deep, near the resort and Lake Magic. Pay at the Wave Rock Kiosk. The Wave Rock Wildlife Park, entered through the Wildflower Shoppe and open 9am to 5pm daily, has kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, wombats and more on three hectares of bush.

The Gold Pass is the better deal if you want more than the animals: A$20 covers the Lace Place, the Toy Soldier Museum, the Wildlife Park and the Pioneer Town museum. On the coach day tour, the listing gives you a choice after lunch of the wildlife park, the antique lace collection or the Toy Soldier Museum, and entry fees to all attractions are included.

Do Wave Rock tours from Perth include the entry fee?

Yes on the two road tours: the coach day and the private day both list Wave Rock entry, so there is nothing to pay at the machine.

The Wave Rock, York and Aboriginal culture day tour lists "Entry fees to all attractions", along with lunch, the coach and pickup from selected Perth CBD hotels. The private Wave Rock and Mulka's Cave tour lists admission to Wave Rock, Hippo's Yawn and Mulka's Cave, with a sausage-sizzle lunch and hotel pickup. The scenic flight and ground tour lists the flight and a guided ground tour of Wave Rock and Hippo's Yawn; entry is not named in its inclusions, so ask the operator when you book.

The wildflower day tour does not go to Wave Rock, so the fee does not come into it. On the 6-day tour to Esperance, which stops at Wave Rock on day one, park fees are included, per the listing.
